‘Dug Dug Dug…’ sound started off by 6:45 AM & took the same Orchha route to Khajuraho. Initial 80 odd Kms of riding in NH-76 was bliss as it offered me smooth roads & amazingly it was fully greenish on either side of the road giving some shades on the road. While on the move, did get a chance to spot some rare birds but thought to cover as much as I can before sun sets up & quite all the photo breaks. After 80 odd Kms in NH-76, took right diversion to Khajuraho & was in NH-75. Although this was semi 2-Lane road, it was smooth enough to enjoy the ride. While nearing Chattarpur, pot holes started to take the game. Took my first break after riding for 130 odd Kms in a dabha for breakfast.
“Yeh! Gaadi kaha ki hain???” Oh man! Same questions againL.
“Bangalore…”
“Yeh Bangalore kis pranth ka sahar hain??”
“Karnatak”
After few more questions,
“Aap karnatak ke hi ho??”
“Ha! Kyon??”
“Aap ki Hindi sunke aisa lagta hain ki aap yahi local ke ho…” he said & I was on cloud nine for his complimentJ.
Since the distance was another 30 odd Kms, took a photo break & entered Khajuraho.| Lush greens to ride on!!! |
Khajuraho! Here I come...
While entering the town, 2 guys from bike approached me &,
“Kaha ja rahe ho??”
“Khajuraho!”
“Agar chahiye to hamara lodge hain! Rukne ke liye…”
“Kitna hain??”
“Che so plus dus percent tax…”
“Chalo dikavo…”
He took me to Hotel Isabel Palace just before the town & the rooms were worth it. But as it was off season, bargained a bit & fixed the deal for 550 bux including tax. As it was just 11:30 AM, washed some cloths, took a bath & went for a small sleepJ. In spite of fan running right above me, my fore head was sweating like hell. Boy! Khajuraho is very hot! Woke up unwillingly by 3:45 PM &thought to explore some place around. As soon as I came out, it wasn’t that hot either. Oh Man! My room sucks with respect to heat thenL.
Nice room for 550 bux
Khajuraho welcomes you all :)
Took a casual round in main market place looking for Madras Coffee Shop which was mentioned in Lonely Planet book & had Masala DosaJ. While roaming slowly in bike, a local person stopped me & I was wondering if I have broken any rules!
“Aap tourist ho???”
“Ha…”
“Toh ek kaam karo! Aap mera number lelo! Hum aapko South aur Eastern Temples be ghoomayenge… Sirf do so lagega…”
Man! Who is the hell is he to tell me to take his number???? I wanted to ask but rejected his offer & moved on. After few more enquiries, cam to Eastern Temples & while enquiring the route to Southern Temples,
“Aap muje aap ke saath leke jaana! Main aapko saare temples ka marg bataunga! Sirf pachas rupai….”
“Acha teek hain chalo…”
A young boy showed me all the temples in southern area first. Southern list consisted of Chaturbuja Temple, Duladeo Temple & another one of which I forgot the name! At one such temple, got excellent shots of 3 different kinds of birds. Was very to shoot birds than the templesJ.

From Javari Temple!
Once done with Southern group of Temples, it was Eastern & there again a bunch of clicks of Adinath Temple, Parsvanath Temple & more. The majority of Eastern group of temples were Jain temples & there were all together at one single premise’s. Came out & handed 50 bux to the boy even though he was expecting a little more. It was 6:30 PM by then & came back to lodge & got some good sunset shots.

Without wasting much time, went to Sound & Light show which again showcased the history of Khajuraho Temples & once again my memory sucks in grasping the names. It was about different rulers of Chandela Kingdom who built these magnificent temples. Post show, went to Madras Coffee Shop & had Lemon Rice & Tomato Rice. Ah! What a pleasure to have south itemsJ.
With completely loaded stomach, came back to lodge, wrote the blog & ended the day reserving Western Group of Temples for tomorrowJ.
